Speaking during sa wreath-laying sa ika-67 ka tuig nga kasumaran sa pagtaliwan ni former president Ramon Magsaysay, I am reminded of a Chinese proverb that goes: To forget one’s ancestors is to be a book without a source, a tree without a root.
President Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay, a war-veteran, a congressman, the Secretary of National Defense, and our nation’s 7th President, was a people-centric leader who restored the people’s trust in the military and the government.
Though his term was short-lived, I will never forget his famous saying that those who have less in life, should have more in law.
Let us try to live by those famous words. Let us not forget why we do what we do, and who it is we serve. We must never forget the public we serve, especially those among the least, the lost, and the last.
